Beware the ring light!

Happy first day of Fall! While I'm never a fan of the cold, I'm eager for the break from Georgia's heat and humidity. Though, I reckon the number of my excuses for not jogging will plummet with each degree...

I recently relaunched my writing experiment, the fictitious design agency FPO, and with this update, I'd love to share another scifi-design case story! (ahem, I mean, a free, illustrated scifi short!)!

FPO is a design-thinking agency specializing in super science + the paranormal. Check it out at www.FPO.design and explore our first, fully-illustrated design story “MVP: Release Thé, virgins.” This case story showcases FPO's fictitious work for Taylor Dubois’ Thé, a fortune-telling startup that leverages technology and our greatest fears to produce eerily-accurate predictions.

And once you've digested that morsel, learn to beware the ring light with FPO's latest case story. “UAT: C2U waits dreaming” remembers FPO co-founder Anthony Bass’ tragic design sacrifice in the face of digital transformation and cosmic horror. The case story also spawned a killer (heh) graphic- and UX-design game, Hitvetica—basically punch buggy for typophiles.

If you dig this experimental mixture of scifi storytelling and visual design, please share it with your friends—I'm already working on a third case story (based on a fan submission) and would love to do more if there's an audience.

Finally, if you live in the Roswell, Georgia area, I spent a few days over the last month making sure every Little Free Library in the city has a signed copy of Calamity among their volumes. So, grab one if you can!

I've got some other exciting news coming down the pike but things are still a little too early to share. Stay tuned.

I'm so excited for this adaptation—the time is finally right for one of the greatest scifi novels ever written to grace the small screen. Here's a neat peek into the writer's room to see how they did it.

Ever hungry for a peek into Denis Villeneuve's Dune, this featurette is a great primer of the main players.

I think it's time to blow this scene
In a season of adaptations, it refreshing to find a corgi in space aboard the ship which inspired Serenity.

I'm so excited for this adaptation—the time is finally right for one of the greatest scifi animes ever shown to come to live action TV! Even better—like Foundation—the writers are growing the story, not just reskinning it.

Typeset in the future.
Everything you've ever wanted to know about the typography and FUI design of the Nostromo.

It's really hard to explain how amazing Typeset in the Future is—it's a rabbit hole like none other. In this breakdown, they take apart Ridley Scott's Alien to an amazing level of design and production detail.
